Every second person today seems to be battling either a cough or a cold or both. And, unlike before, where the weather could always be blamed for your health woes, you’ll find yourself battling the flu any, and all times of the year. Here are simple home remedies to help boost your immunity.

 

  • Remember when your grandma or ma forced you to gargle with salt water? How right she was. One of the best ways to get rid of a cough and cold is to gargle with ½ tsp of salt in a glass of water, thrice a day. It not just helps subside the pain and irritation in the throat, but also loosens the mucous, thus preventing cold.

 

  • Sitopaladi Churna with half tsp of honey, followed by a cup of hot tea or milk, works wonders.

 

  • Massaging one’s feet vigorously before bed with mustard oil has proven to be

 

 

  • Popping one vitamin C (500mg) a day really does keep cold and cough away.

 

  • Have warm liquids such as soup or lemon tea (a natural anti-inflammatory agent) to relieve congestion and prevent dehydration. You can also add honey, which acts as an antioxidant as well.

 

  • Studies have shown that supplements rich in zinc (or even zinc lozenges) help in reducing the symptoms of a cold.

 

  • Sleeping 7 hours is important as it builds up immunity.

 

  • Limit your intake of tea and coffee to a maximum 3-4 cups a day.

 

  • Maintain your protein intake in all your meals through your dals, pulses, milk and curd.
